Day 01 – Arrival in Cairo | The Grand Passage Begins
Arrive at Cairo International Airport, where a dedicated Timeless Nile Tour Manager will meet you and assist with arrival formalities, luggage coordination and, where required, the entry visa process.
You will then be escorted by private vehicle to your luxury hotel in Cairo. Your Tour Manager will assist with hotel check-in, reconfirm the immediate arrangements for your journey and ensure that everything is comfortably in place before leaving you to settle in.
The remainder of the day is at leisure—a chance to rest after your flight and prepare for the days ahead.

Day 02 – Saqqara, Dahshur & Memphis | Where the Story Began
Meet your private Egyptologist this morning and travel south of Cairo into the ancient Memphite region, where some of the decisive experiments in monumental stone architecture took place.
Begin at Saqqara, a vast necropolis serving Egypt for more than three thousand years. At its heart stands the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, built in the 27th century BCE and traditionally associated with the architect Imhotep.
Its six rising levels marked a revolutionary departure from earlier mastaba tombs and created the first monumental pyramid complex built extensively in stone. Nearby tombs preserve wonderfully detailed scenes of farming, fishing, hunting and daily life—reminders that ancient Egyptian ideas of eternity included the continuation of life itself.
Continue to Dahshur, where King Sneferu’s two great pyramids document the architects’ journey toward the true pyramid form.
The unusual change of angle in the Bent Pyramid reveals a major architectural adjustment during construction, while the nearby Red Pyramid is generally regarded as the first successfully completed large true pyramid in Egyptian history.
Lunch: Enjoy a relaxed meal at a countryside-style restaurant surrounded by the palm groves and agricultural landscapes south of Cairo.
After lunch, continue to Memphis, traditionally regarded as one of Egypt’s earliest capitals. Surviving monuments include impressive sculptures of Ramses II and the great alabaster sphinx, offering a glimpse of a city that once stood at the political heart of ancient Egypt.

Ascend the Grand Staircase, where monumental statues of kings and gods rise around you in a dramatic introduction to ancient Egypt.
Each step feels like a passage through dynasties, power, and belief before the museum fully unfolds.
The Main Galleries
Continue through the Main Galleries, where thousands of artifacts trace Egyptian civilization from its earliest beginnings through the great pharaonic periods.
Sculpture, funerary objects, royal images, and everyday pieces reveal not only how the ancient Egyptians ruled and worshipped, but how they lived.
Lunch in the Museum
Pause for lunch at one of the museum’s carefully selected restaurants, allowing time to relax within the elegant surroundings of the Grand Egyptian Museum before continuing the exploration.
The Tutankhamun Collection
Enter the world of Tutankhamun, whose tomb was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922 with an extraordinary assemblage of royal possessions preserved for more than three millennia.

Day 04 – Alexandria | Egypt Meets the Mediterranean
Travel north with your private Egyptologist to Alexandria, founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BCE and destined to become one of the greatest cities of the ancient Mediterranean.
Begin underground at the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, a Roman-period funerary complex where Egyptian beliefs merge surprisingly with Greek and Roman artistic traditions.
Here, figures associated with Egyptian religion can appear alongside classical architectural forms—a striking reflection of the multicultural world that developed in Alexandria.
Continue to the archaeological area of Kom El-Dikka and its Roman theatre, the only structure of its kind discovered in Egypt. Its marble seating and surrounding remains offer a glimpse of the city’s public and intellectual life during the Roman and Byzantine periods.
Lunch: Enjoy fresh Mediterranean cuisine at a carefully selected restaurant overlooking the sea.

Day 05 – Historic Cairo | A City of Faiths and Dynasties
Begin with your private Egyptologist in Coptic Cairo, built around the remains of the Roman fortress of Babylon.
Visit the Hanging Church, famously constructed above one of the fortress gatehouses, and the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus, traditionally associated with the Holy Family’s stay in Egypt.
Continue to the historic Ben Ezra Synagogue, reflecting another chapter in the extraordinary religious history of this compact district.
Lunch: Enjoy traditional Egyptian and Middle Eastern dishes at a carefully selected Cairo restaurant before continuing to Islamic Cairo.
In the afternoon, visit the monumental Mosque and Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, constructed in the 14th century and regarded as one of the masterpieces of Mamluk architecture. Its enormous entrance, soaring walls and monumental courtyard reflect both religious purpose and royal ambition.
Beside it stands the later Al-Rifa’i Mosque, which became the burial place of members of Egypt’s royal family and presents a fascinating architectural contrast with its medieval neighbor.
End the day at Khan El Khalili, where narrow lanes, workshops, cafés, spice merchants and jewelry shops continue a commercial tradition stretching back centuries.

Day 06 – Giza Plateau | Architecture on an Impossible Scale
Today, your private Egyptologist introduces you to the most recognizable landscape in Egypt: the Giza Plateau.
Stand first before the Great Pyramid of Khufu, constructed around 4,500 years ago. Originally approximately 146.6 metres high, it remained the tallest human-made structure in the world for more than three thousand years.
Yet the achievement of Giza is not simply one of size. The plateau was an enormous royal funerary landscape of pyramids, temples, causeways, cemeteries and settlements supporting the people who built and maintained the complexes.
Continue to the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, then pause at a panoramic point where the three principal pyramid complexes can be appreciated together against the desert horizon.
Descend toward the Great Sphinx, carved directly from the natural limestone and traditionally associated with King Khafre. Its combination of a lion’s body and royal head united physical power with kingship and divine authority.
Nearby, explore the monumental Valley Temple, where immense limestone and granite blocks reveal another aspect of Old Kingdom engineering.
Lunch: Enjoy lunch at a carefully selected restaurant with views toward the Pyramids of Giza.
Return to your hotel for the remainder of the afternoon.

Day 07 – Abu Simbel & Aswan | To Egypt's Southern Frontier
After breakfast, check out of your Cairo hotel.
Your Tour Manager will assist with the transfer to Cairo Airport and the domestic flight arrangements for your journey south. Flights to Abu Simbel operate according to airline schedules, normally connecting through Aswan.
On arrival in Abu Simbel, your Egyptologist or dedicated local representative will be waiting to coordinate your visit.
Few monuments equal the first impression of the Great Temple of Ramses II. Four colossal seated statues, each around twenty metres high, dominate the façade and project royal authority toward ancient Nubia.
Inside, halls cut deep into the mountain lead toward the sanctuary. The temple was carefully oriented so sunlight reaches deep into its interior on specific days of the year—one of its most celebrated astronomical features.
Nearby stands the smaller temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor. Remarkably, the queen appears on the façade at almost the same monumental scale as Ramses II, an unusual distinction in Egyptian royal imagery.
The modern story is almost as extraordinary as the ancient one. During the 1960s, the temples were cut into enormous blocks and reconstructed on higher ground as part of the international UNESCO campaign to save Nubian monuments from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.
Lunch: A prepared boxed lunch will be provided to fit comfortably around the Abu Simbel sightseeing and domestic flight schedule.
Fly back to Aswan, where your Tour Manager or local representative will assist with your transfer to the Nile.
Board your luxury Nile cruise, complete embarkation and settle into your cabin for the beginning of the river journey north to Luxor.

Day 08 – Aswan | Between Egypt and Nubia
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Meet your Egyptologist after breakfast and begin exploring Aswan, where the Nile winds around granite islands and the landscape begins to take on the character of Nubia.
Travel by boat to Philae Temple, principally dedicated to the goddess Isis.
The sanctuary once stood on Philae Island but was threatened by rising waters following the construction of the dams at Aswan. As part of the UNESCO Nubian rescue campaign, the monuments were dismantled and reconstructed nearby on Agilkia Island, preserving one of Egypt’s most graceful temple complexes.
Continue to the Unfinished Obelisk, still attached to the granite bedrock in the ancient quarry.
Had it been completed, it would have been among the largest obelisks ever produced. Its abandonment following the appearance of fractures provides archaeologists with unusually direct evidence of ancient stone-working methods.
Then visit the Aswan High Dam, one of the defining engineering projects of modern Egypt and the structure that created Lake Nasser.
Lunch: Enjoy lunch on board your Nile cruise as you return from the morning sightseeing.
Later, step aboard a private traditional felucca. Powered only by the wind, these boats offer one of the most peaceful ways to experience Aswan as palms, granite islands and desert hills drift quietly past.

Day 09 – Kom Ombo & Edfu | Sacred Temples Along the Nile
Your cruise begins sailing north through the agricultural landscapes of Upper Egypt.
At Kom Ombo, visit one of the most unusual temples in the country.
Its design is essentially doubled, with parallel entrances, halls and sanctuaries serving two divine traditions: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, Horus the Elder.
Reliefs here include fascinating scenes connected with ritual, medicine and sacred ceremony. Nearby, the Crocodile Museum displays mummified crocodiles associated with the ancient worship of Sobek.
Return to the ship and continue sailing.
Lunch: Lunch is served on board while the Nile landscape unfolds around you.
Later, visit the magnificent Temple of Horus at Edfu, begun in 237 BCE and completed almost two centuries later.
Because so much of the structure survived, Edfu provides one of the clearest impressions of how an ancient Egyptian temple functioned. Its inscriptions preserve detailed information about festivals, ritual performances and the mythic conflict between Horus and Seth.
Return to the cruise and continue toward Luxor.

Day 10 – Luxor | The Great City of Ancient Thebes
An early start allows you to experience both sides of Luxor, ancient Thebes.
Begin on the West Bank, where the limestone cliffs conceal the royal tombs of the New Kingdom.
In the Valley of the Kings, explore selected tombs decorated with extraordinary religious texts and images intended to guide the deceased pharaoh through the night world and toward rebirth.
Continue to the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, where terraces rise dramatically against the cliffs. Its reliefs include the famous expedition to Punt and scenes supporting the queen’s divine right to rule.
Pause at the Colossi of Memnon, two enormous seated statues of Amenhotep III that once stood before a vast mortuary temple.
Lunch: Return to the Nile cruise for lunch before continuing with the East Bank sightseeing.
In the afternoon, explore Karnak Temple, a sacred complex developed by generations of pharaohs over more than a thousand years.
At its heart lies the celebrated Great Hypostyle Hall, supported by 134 monumental columns—an architectural forest of stone created on a scale that remains overwhelming today.
Continue to Luxor Temple, closely associated with the renewal of kingship and the ancient Opet Festival, during which sacred images traveled ceremonially between Karnak and Luxor.
Return to the ship for your final night on board.

Day 11 – Dendera & Red Sea Escape – From Temples to Tranquility
After breakfast, check out and disembark your Nile cruise.
Your private Egyptologist and driver will accompany you north toward Dendera, home to one of the most beautifully preserved temple complexes in Egypt.
The principal temple was dedicated to Hathor, goddess of love, music, joy, motherhood and the sky.
Inside, extraordinary astronomical ceilings retain traces of their original colors, while crypts, ritual chambers and rooftop spaces reveal the complexity of temple worship during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods.
One of Dendera’s most famous astronomical compositions is the Dendera Zodiac; the original is now in the Louvre in Paris, while a replica remains in its original ceiling position.
On the exterior rear wall, reliefs also depict Cleopatra VII and Caesarion, one of the few monumental Egyptian representations associated with the famous Ptolemaic queen.
After the visit, continue privately across the Eastern Desert toward Hurghada and the Red Sea.
Upon arrival, a Tour Manager or local representative will assist with resort check-in and the transition from your archaeological journey to the more relaxed final stage of the program.

Hurghada lies beside waters renowned for their clarity and marine life, making the transition from archaeological exploration to the natural world especially rewarding.

A second full day beside the Red Sea gives the journey something many itineraries overlook—time.
There is no required sightseeing today.
Return to the beach, enjoy your resort, arrange an optional marine experience or simply relax before tomorrow’s journey home.
The day is deliberately left open, allowing the final stage of The Grand Passage to feel like a genuine holiday rather than another scheduled excursion.

After breakfast, check out of your Hurghada resort.
Your dedicated Tour Manager or local representative will assist with luggage and transfer you privately to Hurghada Airport for your domestic flight to Cairo.
On arrival in Cairo, a Tour Manager will assist with the connection and transfer arrangements for your international departure, according to your flight schedule and airport procedures.
Fourteen days have taken you from Egypt’s earliest pyramids to the Mediterranean, from Abu Simbel and Nubia to the temples of the Nile, and finally from Dendera across the desert to the Red Sea.

Is The Grand Passage a private tour?
Yes. All scheduled sightseeing is conducted privately with your own professional Egyptologist and private transportation. The Nile cruise and resort themselves are not exclusive-use unless a private charter or exclusive accommodation arrangement is specifically requested.
Does private sightseeing mean private access to archaeological sites?
No. Your sightseeing is privately guided, but monuments, museums and archaeological sites generally remain open to other visitors. Private or special access is not included as standard, although certain officially available arrangements may be organized upon request and subject to permission and availability.
Do we have Meet & Assist service throughout the journey?
Yes. Meet & Assist and logistical support are provided throughout the journey. Whenever your private Egyptologist is not present, a dedicated Tour Manager or local representative will assist as required with airports, domestic flights, transfers, hotel or cruise coordination and other operational arrangements in destinations such as Cairo, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Luxor and Hurghada.
How long is the flight from Aswan to Abu Simbel?
The scheduled flight usually takes approximately 45 minutes each way. Actual flight times and schedules are subject to airline operations.
How do we travel from Cairo to Abu Simbel?
Domestic flight arrangements are organized according to the operating schedule, usually traveling from Cairo via Aswan before continuing to Abu Simbel. After sightseeing, you return to Aswan to embark on the Nile cruise.
Is lunch included during the Abu Simbel day?
Yes. A boxed lunch is provided because the day’s schedule is built around domestic flights and the Abu Simbel visit.
What direction does the Nile cruise sail?
The cruise sails from Aswan north to Luxor, with sightseeing at Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu and Luxor.
Are meals included on the Nile cruise?
Yes. The Nile cruise is on a Full Board basis, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals during the land portion of the program are included where specifically stated in the itinerary.
Why are two days included in Hurghada?
After an intensive cultural journey, the two Red Sea days create a deliberate change of pace. They allow time for genuine relaxation while still giving travelers the option to enjoy snorkeling, diving or boat activities if they wish.
Is Dendera worth including between Luxor and Hurghada?
Very much so. The Temple of Hathor at Dendera is exceptionally well preserved and contains some of Egypt’s most impressive surviving astronomical and religious decoration. Its location also fits naturally into the journey from Luxor toward the Red Sea.
Can the itinerary be customized?
Yes. As a private journey, The Grand Passage can be adapted according to hotel preference, cruise category, interests, pace, room requirements and optional experiences.
Can additional nights be added in Cairo or Hurghada?
Yes. Pre-tour or post-tour nights can be added, and the Red Sea stay can easily be extended for travelers wanting more leisure time.
